Back in 1963 or early 1964, I went to a movie theatre in Vancouver, B.C. and saw a version of My Fair Lady that was identical to the one with Audrey Hepburn, EXCEPT that this version starred Julie Andrews. A few months later, we went back to see My Fair Lady again, and there in place of Julie Andrews was Audrey Hepburn. I remember being disappointed! My quandary is that I don't seem to be able to find people who remember this movie version with Julie Andrews, and everything I've tried to Google on the subject comes up empty. Even interviews with Julie Andrews have her saying that she never did a movie version of My Fair Lady. It seems very much like no one wants to even admit there really was a movie version of My Fair Lady that starred Julie Andrews. I know very well who I saw starring in the movie that day in 1963 or early 1964!! My questions become: 1. Does anyone else out there remember this version of My Fair Lady? And 2. If so, why is it such a deep dark secret that the version indeed existed and was shown for a short time before it was removed to be replaced by the Audrey Hepburn version??

Sorry, but no such movie exists. What you MAY have seen was a film of the play. Someone may have filmed a performance (or performances) of the stage play and put it into a movie theatre.

I do know what I saw and have encountered others around my age who also recall the one with Julie Andrews. It seems as though all evidence of there ever having been a first movie with Julie Andrews must have been destroyed with the people involved being sworn to secrecy, or at the very least it was locked up tight in a vault somewhere. The two movies were identical, same actors and actresses, same sets, same costumes, to the one with Audrey Hepburn, EXCEPT that the first one starred Julie Andrews and came out a few months or a year prior. Then suddenly the one with Julie Andrews simply disappeared as if it had never happened. I had hoped someone might acknowledge what I and others know we saw, and shed some light upon why the Julie Andrews version disappeared never to be seen again, but apparently, it remains shrouded in mystery.

I'm afraid your memory and others are faulty. There is no way something like this could have been completely covered up. Also I would this on a My Fair Lady trivia site (My Fair Lady (1964) - Trivia - IMDb)

Julie Andrews was the first choice for the role of Eliza Doolittle, but Warner Brothers, which had paid million for the rights to the Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe musical, didn't want to risk a stage actress in the central role of a -million film, despite lobbying from Lerner himself. However, this reason has been strongly doubted by those who believe audiences would have flocked to see the film regardless of who played the leading role. It is also reported that Jack L. Warner didn't think Andrews would be photogenic enough. He invited her to do a screen test, but she refused, so he forgot about her altogether.

Since profit was the motive in choosing Hepburn, I can't see Warner Bros spending the money to film a second version. Maybe you saw the screen test.
