I have a kenmore fridge.. The setting is on 4 presently and things feel extremely cold.. not to the point of freezing.. although I had some carrots on the door that froze.. which way do I turn the control for a slightly warmer setting... please advise.

You would move it toward 1. Try 3 and see what happens. You have two controls: One controls the airflow from the freezer coils and one is the thermostat. You may need to adjust both of them. Just pick the one that most closely matches your unit. You may also clean the coils under the unit. The best way is to unplug it and wash out the coils by removing the back cover and the front kickplate. You should do this twice a year. Dirty coils will cause it to run too long and will burn up the compressor. It will not be covered under many warranties if you failed to clean it.
