Dear Sir,
I am 33 and has a BMI of 25. For the past 5 months, I am feeling pain in the knees towards front end while climbing up or going down through stairs. The doctor ruled out the possibility of arthritis after seeing the x-ray report.

May I get to know the other possibilities?

A common cause of pain right at the front of the knees is loss of synovial fluid, which leaks out of a sac that is designed to hold it in. Does your knee make crackling or popcorn noises? Does it hurt to the touch?
Actually there are several knee conditions, so I'm surprised that all the doctor ruled out was arthritis. But you may need to find a sports medicine clinic or orthopedist. Major university medical centers are better for this too. I wouldn't go back to the same doctor, unless you are overweight, aging, or sedentary, and your doctor feels that you just need to address those or accept them. Pain in knees is sort of a fact of life.

And if your guess is wrong, and the therapy you recommend actually does more harm because of a medical issue that wasn't diagnosed, then what?

The OP (original poster) needs to see a specialist. I agree with Joy that I'm shocked that the doctor only ruled out arthritis and didn't investigate further to find out what's causing the pain.
