    Renovations while renting
Hi there, while renting our home that we have been in just over 6 months, has just had its roof replaced taking 6 days. We couldn't go outside for osh reasons, and the noise was unbelieveable with chainsaws, angle grinders.
We moved out throughout the day and came home late at night!
What are my rights with regards to rent throughout this week please?

Tenant law varies by state in the US, but cases involving repairs to the exterior are probably not spelled out in any state law. A tenant term 'quiet enjoyment' is often mistaken for something meaning a right to quiet, but that term means something else entirely.
Most localities (town, county) have ordinances about hours that loud work can happen, and most seem to be 7 am with no end time. Why did you wait until late at night to go home? Surely they were gone within 8 hours?
I think you are out of luck as far as 'rights' go. I would write a letter to the landlord saying that you want a 6 day reduction in next month's rent for all the noise and inconvenience, and that he should have had the work done between tenants. He may have tried and the roofer was late. Hopefully you can negotiate.

Roofing when needed is to be expected, The fact it took 6 days, since most will be done in two days. Also there is no reason to be using a chain saw or a angle grinder on most roofing, is this a metal or tile roof, not just a shingle roof.

I think honestly, you are over reacting, and most people, if not all people stay in the home while roofing is going on.
