I took a drug test today on April 1, 2013 and my hair on my head was too short so they cut 1.5 inches of hair from my armpits. I smoked weed from August 2012 to December 2012 not everyday but a couple of puffs about every 3 days. I last smoked on December 1, 2012. Will I pass the test I just took?

You could fail because hair follicle tests detect up to six months back. December 2012 was only just over three months ago.

Is the test for sports, work, child custody or criminal issues? Perhaps if we knew what the test is for, you could get advise on managing the situation if you fail.

It's unfortunate that people make quick decisions to take drugs without considering the potential that for a variety of different circumstances, they may have to take these tests down the road. A friend of mine did a very dumb thing recently. She has ADHD but does not have health insurance. Her daughter also has ADHD and IS insured, but she doesn't regularly take her meds. So, to avoid paying out of pocket for a doctor visit and her own prescription, my friend was periodically taking her daughter's left-over meds. Well, she was offered a job but they required drug screaning - she thought nothing of it until she tested positive for Adderal and could not demonstrate that she had a prescription. They retracted the job offer.

I really urge anyone who's considering using any drugs for any reason to think first whether they could possibly be looking for a job, competing in sports, or engaged in any type of legal matter within the next 6 to 8 months. If so, besides the fact that drugs are dumb anyway, it's a grand way to screw yourself out of positive opportunities and invite negative consequences. Never a good idea to take that Codeine that your friend offered for your headache, or accept a joint, try a line of coke, or as my friend did - skim the kid's adderal to save money on your own.

It's for a job. They told me the test only detects up to 90 days but I wasn't sure if it would actually detect up too longer?
