    Help needed regarding form 8843
    Hello

I did an unpaid internship/scholar(J1) last year in the US in June-July 2012. Now I have a few questions about filling out form 8843:
    - do I fill out the "Address in the US" ( I returned to my home country India in August 2012, should I fill in my address during the internship). I have been staying in India since my return from the US last year.
    - what do I write at "current nonimmigrant status"

    Thank you for the help.

Yes, insert the address where you stayed while serving as an intern

Your current status is non-resident alien.

Thank you very much for the quick response.

I sent an email to the University where I was a short-term scholar (J1). They asked me to write N/A as my current status as I am not living in United States anymore. Should I put N/A or non-resident alien ? Could you please explain who is a non-resident alien? Should'nt a person be staying in the US to be considered a Non-resident alien? Is non-immigrant and non-resident alien the same thing ?

A non-resident alien is any foreign national who is NOT in residence status irrespective of their physical location.

You can put N/A if you wish. It is NOT accurate, but the IRS will not reject the return because of it.
