    Pregnancy test
How likely is a false positive without first mornings urine? And a negative with first mornings urine? Been spotting for three days and felt a little nauseous and a little dizzy when getting up and walking around... periods are irregular to none because I got of the depo shot last year.. last period was I'm January and lasted less than a week. Nothing since then except for the three days ago... can you help please?

    False positives are rare... period.

False negatives... unless you take it right... aren't.

It's very rare to have a false positive because you only get a positive if there is HcG present in your urine. This is a hormone that your body only produces if you are pregnant, so if you get a positive you are pregnant

If you got a negative before you got the positive, you probably tested too early or your urine was too diluted to test positive.

Spotting can be normal in a healthy pregnancy and can also indicate a miscarriage. If you have miscarried, your HcG can drop which can result in a negative result.

I'd suggest you call your doctor. Or at least, do another pregnancy test with first morning urine. If it's negative, you've probably had an early term miscarriage.

Well the first pregnancy test turned up positive and that was w/o the FMU.. the second one the next day came out negative and that is with FMU... the spotting stopped as of today... haven't seen any whatsoever...
I plan on doing another HPT on Tuesday when my boyfriend gets home and I guess we will go from there...

    Thanks for your help

You either miscarried or got a false negative, hard to know. Taking another test is a good approach.

Not using first morning urine could result in a false negative because the HcG is at it's highest concentration in first morning urine. Not using first morning urine would NOT cause a false positive result for pregnancy. A positive with urine later in the day is a STRONGER positive response because it means that even in more dilute urine, there's enough HcG present to trigger a positive result.

When I got the negative result I did use FMU... so maybe I got a false negative or the HCG Levels weren't high enough? I'm not sure... I'm definitely going to take another test in a few days...

    Thanks for your help! :)
