Filing U.S. Income Tax as Resident Alien
In the year of 2012, I lived and worked in the U.S. as a resident alien on an R-1 (Religious Worker) visa. I left the U.S. on December 26.

I am now filing my tax return. I've filled out a 1040, and it's pretty simple. I worked a single job, with no other income, investments, property purchases, loans, or anything of that nature. I have attached my W-2, and I have also written a statement to establish my residency termination date.

My question is: have I done everything I need to do? I only found out today, after a lot of reading, that I even needed a statement to establish residency termination, and so I am worried that I may have missed some obscure rule for non-citizens.

Thanks for any help you might give.

How about the state tax return?

If you have that requirement, you have done everything that needs to be done.

Thanks so much for your answer! Last year I lived in Washington State. I believe they don't require a state tax return? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct; Washington state has NO state income tax.
