Have 46 inch Murray.. Had to pull the ign switch and ended up having to pull wires from plastic plug in on back of switch... and had to cut them.. now do not have a clue where they go when put back in.. Really stupid thing to do.. but now need help to rewire. Only wire left in is the upper right red one that went to lights (grn-red).. now have others.. can plug in the large yellow safety wire.. PN for switch is 3497644 and it is a 6 pin switch with the largest on bottom for safety wires. ANY ONE know where other wires plug in? How does safety switches work, stay open and ground out hot side or what when no one on seat etc.. Or are they hot when engaged... do not use lights so not a big deal there... can anyone list colors (and to what) starting at top.. and clockwise.. This is is the 46 inch twin.. and actually runs pretty good.. also anyone know capacity for trans? Usign Mobile syn there but nothing on capacity I can find.

Ign key is one pin on top, then two rows of two each and bottom pin

Could someone look at their wiring in back of key and send data?

This is a very tough question without another machine to look at, I would go to the local LARGE repair shop and ask to look at one. Hope someone posts the answer. If the switch were here I would use a Volt / Continuity tester and follow the path, it is a job for veterans.

Here is what I know for sure.. First the safety switch wire (yellow) from the seat, brake etc. is yellow and goes to bottom of the switch. That leaves 5 more wires.. I do not need the "headlights" which are green/red.. that eliminates 2 more... never could understand why headlights needed anyway.. I am then left with the starter and ign to hook up and a hot wire that comes in from starter sol... I am not sure what top slot on switch is (Stands alone on top) and the other four.. do not know if the safety switches (yellow wire) is "makes ground" or what and is only there for the starter side.. as the engage/disengage seems to be for the ign and I would guess grounds it out if you get off seat and try to leave blades engaged..
So cannot run a test as not sure which one is power in and not sure what the function of safety (yellow) is when "on seat, brake etc".. So have to find what single top connection is and then the other two rows (clockwise) are hooked up.. where does hot come in and where does ign and starter come on.. which terminals.. it is probably pretty much standard. Local dealer will not let anyone look.. simply says.. bring it down (at $50/hour) and I will work on it.. may take 1-4 hours.. etc. which in truth will be about 15 minutes..
So any ideas and if anyone knows.please address as clock with too one at 12 and then down to right of two, then then down to next right of two.. and then lower left of two and one above it.. really screwed up when removed the wires.. but had no choice..

According to a diagram for a B/S switch (S16) the wiring goes like this.


Yellow 4
Orange 5 Black 3
Red 6
Blue 1 White 2
Facing plug
1=ground
2= accessory
3=coil
4=starter
5=battery to switch
6=charge

I can use meter.. but not sure what the function of the safety wire is.. is it ground and open till someone sets on seat, is there another ground in key. Where does the hot voltage enter key? If I had that I could find rest.. but continuity is a mess as not sure how the safety wire works..

The seat has a normally open switch until you sit on it then it closes and allows current to flow. On the common S16 6 post key switch-------1,3,6 posts=off, 2,5,6 = run and 2,4,5 are start. You can verify that by using your meter and touching the posts on the back of switch. The orange wire (#5 post) runs from the battery to switch. The ground in the switch you may be talking about is blue (1). That should give you the princples or at least a basis to start tracing the spaghetti of wire found in riders these days.

This is all facing the back of ign switch.. Switch PN Is 4KA and do not know year of it..
Her e is how back of switch looks 1-5 are hooked up via plastic item from wiring harness, 6 is open to plug on and told that is “traditionally a ground” a universal ground or for lights I do not know.

The yellow safety wire goes in NR 1 and continuity checks shows it a ground.. which I guess goes open when on seat, out of gear etc..
Nr 2 is unk, nr 3 is a black wire, nr 4 red wire, and 5 is unk, 6 I think is a ground (green) for headlight as 6 and 1 have continuity on switch.

Wire harness is a red/green for lights (not used now) a yellow that is to safety switch and one goes to coil to ground it which I suppose is safety deal. I am left with two black wires... neither of which show to ground on continuity check. A white wire (combo with a black that I think goes to charge or such, have not opened up cower under to trace them yet.. A red wire that runs to starter sol..
So I have 2 black unknown (but maybe couple up at one terminal?)
1 white that goes to ground and goes with black.. suspect it is for charging
1 red that goes to starter sol. Also has bat red and a black ground (two prongs there) and yellow at sol..
1 yellow wire that either hooks to 1 or 6 on switch.
NO OTHER WIRES, no orange or such. Eng is brigs twin.. 46 inch older murray.
So IDEAS on wiring up switch? PN on switch appears to be 4KA on front and has Pat Nr of 3497644

Single plug

This is the order looking at the back of the switch with the single plug connection to your left and the top of the triangle of connections at the top.

Do not see any numbers to use numbers. But the letter A is top with letter G being the single plug. The bottom has Letter M
