Snow is coming in through the attic side vents how do I stop this without covering up the vent

Window screeen should do it... stapled or glued on the inside... I'm assuming there isn't something like that there already...

Is it possible the vents are the wrong type?

The slats usually extend past the top and bottom edge by about 3/4''. This would help keep snow out.
