Why does new doorbell chime and then buzz when both red wires connect
Old doorbell worked, but the white transformer wires were together and not to the unit.

I wired the new doorbell the same way and when I wired the second screw the unit chimed and then continued to buzz like it was getting constant activation

If I touched the white transformer wires to the unit it did the same thing.

Try connecting one red and one white to it and see if it works. It is possible that the old one used twice the voltage and to do that, one would use both red wires and tie the whites together.

I said it wrong. There was 1 red to the front. 1 red to the transformer. I think the white r for the rear which isn't used. When I hook up the two red, it initiates the chime but then keeps going w the current.

Did you check the condition of the doorbell button?

No because it was just working w the old one, but it does seem like for some reason it went bad because the current doesn't break. I think I'm just going to give wireless a try
