What is the difference between a schematic and a wiring diagram? Any tips on simplifying/reading one?

Basically the same. However, In some instances wire sizes are not shown on the schematic, just the wire direction, color and connection points. A house wiring diagram would indicate the AWG and breaker capacity. What is this for?

A wiring diagram would show the actual devices to be wired. A schematic only uses symbols for devices. Plus a wiring diagram shows the colors of the wires used.
