    Child support
Here goes! There was a child support order in place for years on my ex and I never received any. We got married for a year and a half, he was in the Army. We got divorced and I could no longer pay for my attorney, he basically dropped us off with nothing and left. Because I couldn't pay for my attorney any longer he quit my case. I did not know I had to attend the divorce seminar so I didn't. His support rights have been terminated and we are on medicaid through srs. Can they still go after him for child support?

You may not be able to get retroactive payments but of your child is under 18 you may still be able to get payments.

You will need to go to court and refile.

You stated there was a support order?
What state, was it a final order ?

I'm not sure what you mean by "support rights". His visitation and other parenting rights can be terminated without terminating his responsibility to pay child support. Plenty of abusive parents, for example, have lost visitation but still have their pay garnished for child support.

You need a lawyer and since money is a problem, I would recommend trying to find free legal support. Otherwise, go through your state's child support enforcement division as they often will go after unpaid child support, particularly when the custodial parent is on state assistance programs.

Oh fine. We ask for several answers to questions and all you give us is your city. Do you want help or not?

Is the sequence: gave birth to the child, "he" ordered to pay child support, you married. During the marriage he didn't pay child support because he was married to you and was supporting the child. Now you're divorced and want to know if you can enforce the child support order.

    Is that the question?

I vote no - the marriage nullified the support order.

If you want support you need to file a new Petition.

No one is being mean. Lots of us are answering questions from work and manage to stay focused.

Yes, it's that way but he never paid child support before we married even though there was a court order. Hun, what I meant is, I have no problem staying focused. I can't use the computer or my phone until my breaks. I am now off work.

What does that have to do with anything? Did the court dismiss your divorce case as a consequence?

No, I just thought that might have had something to do with it.

It's still unclear here. If a support order was issued by the court, then why wasn't support collected? What happened to that order?

That's where it stated support rights terminated, on the last entry on the case. I have no idea why the support wasn't collected, srs probably got tired of chasing him down.

Well you need to find out. There should be court papers detailing what happened.
