    Power use indicator
I have an intermediate pump in a tank between a septic tank and an elevated septic field. The pump is very quiet especially when covered in snow. I would like to know if and when the pump is operating. Is there such a thing as a power use indictor with an indicator light that plugs into a receptacle that I can plug the pump into?

I agree, this would also be useful to monitor things like well pumps and refrigerator compressors. I have never seen a plug, electrical box or extension cord with a current sensor built-in, but you could make one yourself. Various line-powered sensors and gauges are available from CR Magnetics (see “indicators and displays”). There is also the NK Technologies “amp flasher” and Reliance Controls “snaplite.”
