Thinking about redoing a bathroom floor with the stick on vinyl flooring. Not too sure how much confidence I have in it, so a few questions:

1. What is the best surface to put under it for the adhesive to work best? Is plywood OK? How about the hardyboard (concrete board)?
2. Does the tile tend to shift slightly over time, or does it stay in place well?
3. Anyone have any experience with the tiles that can be grouted?

My husband says to make sure the base of whatever type is clean, smooth (not flawed or bumpy), and free of holes. Several years ago, he put 12x12 vinyl tiles over 1950s linoleum in our kitchen. He also did the bathroom 12x12 tiles over linoleum years ago. It has held up well, except that the tiles are white and have now yellowed a bit. New project for him!
2. Does the tile tend to shift slightly over time, or does it stay in place well? Ours (Armstrong) has stayed in place very well with edges tight. Don't allow puddles to stand.
3. Anyone have any experience with the tiles that can be grouted? No.

Is plywood OK? Yes, but as Wondergirl said make sure that it is clean, smooth and dust free. In the tile section of big box stores you will probably find a latex product that is suppose to improve adhesion. I have never used it but I suspect that it does help. Probably helps most by removing dust and sealing thee wood. I would not recommend cement backer board. Tiles will stick (to the smooth side) but you would have to seal all joints with fiberglass tape and thin set. Then sand joints and screw holes smooth. Then clean all dust.

Plywood sub floor OK, but Luan is not recommended, don't know why.
