Can my husband adopt my daughter.. he has been in her life since before she was born and has taken care of her as his own. We have 3 other children together.. her real father is on the birth certificate but has not had any contact with her since she's been here.. I have tried over and over to get him involved but he refuses so my husband is wanting to adopt her.. its been exactly two years since he saw ger gor 10 -minutes... Retain and attorney and have your husband petition to adopt. If the bio father will agree this should be a simple process. If he refuses it might not happen. In that case you will have to present proof that it is in the child's best interests to override the father's objection. However, give the circumstances you describe, that shouldn't be too much a problem.

First it is great that your daughter has such a great man who wants to adopt her. Not all men are that good. And I hope he can. It will go very easy if the bio father will sign over his rights to allow the adoption. If you have been enforcing the child support, normally most men will sign over rights since the support stops then. But in either case, you hire an attorney to start the process.
