We updated and installed a new 40 gal hot water heater in conjunction with a new AC/Heat system in our 1000 sq ft home late this past summer. The ones removed were the originals installed in the house in ’82. Since the install of the new hot water heater, we have experienced a consistent issue. The issue is we can have hot bath water but when you pull the plunger for the shower, the water is luke warm at best. This is even more prevalent in the morning with the first shower. Our hot water heater is turned all the way up but it doesn't seem to matter. We have no absence of hot water in any other location such as the bathroom and/or kitchen sinks.

With all that being said, I am leaning towards the shower controls themselves.

Are there any suggestions on how to fix this or resolve the problem?

That is NOT a good idea, Alsparl! No home should have hot water that exceeds 125F at a maximum. Anything beyond that needlessly costs you money and can/will damage the plumbing parts in your home!

What is the name brand of the water heater and is it gas or electric?

What is the name brand and age of the tub/shower valve?

How many gallons per minute does your shower head deliver (look at the where the head threads onto the shower arm) and just how many shower heads/body sprays are present (if any)?

Odd issue in that the tub spout delivers significantly more hot water than the shower head (in most cases)...

Mark, Thank you very much for your response. For starters, I have made the adjustment to the water temp. Thank you for the tip. Our gas hot water heater is Craftmaster mod. N40S61-403 (prod. # 0733316) that we purchased at Lowe's. Our home is right at 1000 sq ft and all the water pipes for the whole house (single bathroom, landry, and kitchen sink) can all be accessible within a 10 ft run. The water lines as well as the shower fixtures, are the originals that were in the house built in '82. Regular cleaning and TLC makes things last. The hot water heater we took out was also the original in the house as well. The only reason we changed was going from 30-40 gallons.

I unfortunately am unaware of the output of our single shower head as there are no numbers stamped, imprinted, or documented on it. There are no other attachments in the shower itself using or drawing water.
