    The movie is actually a compilation of very old tales, could call them children's tales, the story teller/actor sits by the fire and his dog by his feet. It could've been a TV series they compiled in one. It could be british made, or just the story teller/actor is british.

    Add some story details, there are a lot of flix out there that have that set up, but you might check out Jim Hensons The Storyteller The Storyteller (TV Series 1988 I was a huge fan of it when it was gong on, maybe its what you are thinking of?
