    Camel and cookies word problem
Tim and Nate have to deliver a note that is 500 miles away across a desert. They are taking a camel that can hold 300 cookies. For each mile they go they each share a cookie. What is the minimum number of cookies they will need to complete the journey.

I tried methods of laying down cookies so you can eat them as you go and end up going farther but I always end up running out.

How many cookies will they need? You say you run out of cookies, but how many do they need if they share one each mile of the journey?

Well they have to share one for each mile that they travel.. it's a round trip making it a total 100 miles. They can only carry 300 cookies so they have to set some down and go back for more and then eat the ones they set down as they go forward again so they can use the 300 in there pack to make another path

It's more than 100 miles round trip. Check again.

No.. here is copied right from the book:

Nate and Tim made it out of the jungle. Now the adventurous students find themselves at the Sahara.
Soon after they arrive, they are approaced by a Sheik who offers them 1 million gold rupees if they agree to bring a message to his son, who is 500 miles across the desert, and return with his response. The Sheik offers the use of his prize camel, Carla, and her canteen that will hold plenty of water for the journey. Carla can also carry up to 300 cookies in her pack.
They know they will need some way to keep energized and happy through their trip. Nate and Tim decide that they will need to share a cookie for each mile that they travel. When the Sheik hears of this, he is pleased and agrees to buy the cookiies for the boys. What is the minimum number of cookies they will need to complete the journey.
