8 times out of 10 when we flush the toilet the pump shuts down and doesn't kick back on until I do as described above. I have to manually trip the lever on the side of the pressure regulator a couple times until the pressure on my gauge comes up, then it catches and takes over the cycle by itself. Doesn't shut down using the sink or the shower just the toilet, so it probably has to do with the small amount of water being used to fill the toilet tank. Although when the shower runs you may get a blast when the pump cycles. Seems like the tank and pump may be out of sinc?
Pump not picking up at the right pressure?

Sounds like you have a tank problem. Possibly an obstruction in the port of the pressure switch.

The lever on the pressure switch sets the switch to either off or automatic. It is not something you should normally be messing with.

What kind and size tank do you have? Is it a galvanized pressure tank or a painted (usually blue) bladder tank. What size tank?

What is the does the pressure gauge read when the pump is off?

If you have a bladder tank (painted) press the needle in the air valve and see if you air or water.

A bladder tank should be pressurized to 2 pounds less than the pump cut on pressure. That is with the tank empty.

It sounds sounds like you have a "water logged" tank. If it is a galvanized pressure tank it is just water logged. If it is a bladder tank, it has a ruptured bladder and the tank has become water logged.

Where is the pressure switch located? Is it in a tee on the well pipe or is connected to the tank by a small tube?

HK, the tank might be bad, but I think he stated in his earlier thread that the switch and tank are new.

I know may be blocked port to switch but you have to start some where.

That sure sounds like a water logged tank to me (with a good flow from well). Maybe not set up properly. Maybe not pressurized properly.

Thanks guys... I bought a good dial pressure gauge and set the tank to #28.
That solved the problem. I have learned a lot as I go, about 8 yrs. Ago I replaced the subm. Well pump myself. Have replaced the septic pump a couple times in 15 yrs. So it is an experience. I was on the right track I just didn't have a good gauge to check it and I didn't think of draining all water pressure first. Very helpful... Thanks!
