I am renting a house in Michigan. My name is on the lease, however my roommate and I have a verbal agreement that we would split all rent and utilities 1/2.
Since January of this year he has not paid anything. Now he is temporary gone (job assignment) and has not paid anything. He is currently receiving mail to (my) house.
Prior to him leaving- I realized he was not a good roommate and now I just want him and his stuff gone.
I informed him that when he comes back (off his job assignment) he needs to move.
My question is: how should I go about doing this... Do I need to do something legally? Or could I just change the locks and tell him the best time to come over to remove his belongings.

Your verbal with him causes him to have a month to month lease arrangement with you. Can he get mail where he is now? Mail him a certified letter giving him a 30 day notice. Also state that his belongings must be removed at the end of the 30 days.
