Ok, my garage door has been acting up. I've tried to reset my GFI that is in garage to no avail. My dryer is hooked up to this and still works. I don't think the GFI is reseting at all. The wall mounted opener for garage won't light up, the sensor beams won't light up, there is a yellow light on the GFI outlet, what does this mean and what does it mean for the garage door. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure your dryer is on this circuit? 120 Volt dryer? Could be a bad GFCI or a loose wire.

No dryer isn't on that circuit. What does yellow light mean?

15A or 20 A for garage?

Is the garage door opener plugged into the GFI outlet?

" My dryer is hooked up to this and still works". Depends on what wiring you have. A 20 AMP GFCI should be used on 12 AWG but a 15 AMP GFCI can be used on a 12 or 14 AWG wire. Do you know what gauge wire you have? What is the breaker capacity?

I'm not sure. How can you tell?

Unplug the door opener and press the reset button on the GFI and tell us what happens.

It sparks as if there is power. I have a lighted wall mount button for garage and when I push reset and release it try's to light up

I'm confused. You unplugged the garage door opener and reset the GFI and you got a spark?

It appears that way. Not sure why it would do that I've never had trouble until about three days ago

Still confused. You unplugged the garage door opener, you pressed the reset on the GFI outlet and you got a spark. Where was this spark? Was it at the outlet?

I assume that means there's power to that outlet but doesn't mean that the GFI outlet is bad? Also when I press the reset button it doesn't stay in like the others do

With the garage door opener unplugged, did the GFI reset?

I figured out that the GFI outlet in the kitchen doesn't work at all

Now I'm really confused. How did the kitchen get into this. If you have a GFI in the kitchen, the garage should be on a separate circuit. You could have the garage outlet on the kitchen circuit, (not suppose to) but you would not have a GFI in the kitchen and then another GFI outlet in the garage on the same circuit.
And if you did, the LED light on the garage outlet would not have been lit if the kitchen GFI was tripped.
If the garage is on the other side of the wall from the kitchen I suppose some one could have tapped an outlet for the kitchen from the garage side and installed a GFI.

Again with the garage door unplugged did the garage GFI outlet reset?

I had a friend tell me to check outside but I don't have any outlets outside the only other outlets are right behind the garage in the kitchen

Will the garage GFI reset if the opener is unplugged?
