    F-1 and H1-B Taxes
    Hello!

As an international student with an F-1 visa, I incurred education expenses (tuition) from January-February 2006. However, Since October 2006, my status has changed to that of an H1-B (working visa). Can I file my education expense as a deduction for 2006 even though I incurred those expenses while I had an F-1 visa?

Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks!

Negative. You are still considered either a non-resident alien or a dual-status alien, and in either case, you CANNOT claim the education credit or deduction.

    Sorry!
