Alberta, Canada -- Trust theft under $5000
Today I was caught and fired for taking a $20 promotional card at a store I worked in. I have no idea why I took it but that's beside the point. What I'm wondering is what is likely to happen? I'm over 18 and my manager said that they will be talking to the police. I've read that trust theft is viewed a lot harsher then shoplifting. I have no previous record and a 4th year university student. I'm freaking out about this ruining career prospects and any advice would be appreciated

I am Canadiantoo, and hate to hear of students doing this. I don't want to be judgmental, but why? God $20 bucks come on?? This is an international site and to be specific the only ones we hear about are from Canada and that makes me cringe, it makes me wonder what is happening and it is embarrassing to say the least.

Yes, there is the trust issue. And yes, you are Canadian, exposing yourself and admitting to it, and it makes me wonder, how far you want your education to go?

You are almost done, and you did this.

Keep your fingers crossed, because I can't say what will happen.
