Gout is always a possibility for pain in this area. Shellfish has always been the cause of my flare ups but other foods and beverages can cause it and injury to the foot can also cause it (according to my Dr). If it is gout, (and only a Dr. and blood analysis can determine that), it can continue to get worse even after 2 days. See a Dr.
The possibilities are many. A podiatrist is a good choice for thorough knowledge of the nerves that get pinched, and bones that can get hairline cracks etc, if it isn't gout.
