Replacing ceiling fan with light fixture red wire
I'm trying to replace a ceiling fan with light to a light only. My switch at the wall was a dimmer but I switched to a flip. The new fixture has 2 black 2 white and a ground wire. In the ceiling I have a bundle of white a bundle of black (that are all capped off together) a red and a ground wire. I have tried the white to white and the black (from fixture) to red (since all the blacks in ceiling are capped off) this is not working and I have tried changing out the switch from dimmer to flip as mentioned earlier (thinking the dimmer had something to do with it). Can you help?

How was the fan wired. If you have black and red, it would indicate there are 2 switches.

The black and the red came off the same side of the switch, the black was coming from the bundle of black wires and the red was going to the black wire on the light or fan. The bundle of white wires in the ceiling box had a short white wire coming off and going to the white wire on the fan or light. The white wire from the switch was going to a white and black striped wire on the fan or light.

That is the wire taking power from the ceiling box to the switches.

That is the wire bring power back from one of the switches.

That is the wire bring power back from the other switch.

    That is your neutral.

Connect the whites from your new light fixture to the neutral.

Connect the blacks from your new light fixture to either the red or the white from the switch (depending on which switch you want to use.) Cap the other wire from the switch with a wire nut.

    Connect your ground.
