My mom is really depressed... what do I do?!
Hello, I am eleven years old, and my mom is really depressed and I don't have a clue as to what to do. My dad died two years ago from diabetes and a heart attack, and since then she's been broken. Always complaining about how her life sucks, how fat she is (Even though she isn't and is very gorgeous) And she doesn't believe me when I tell her that... She recently had a boyfriend that made her life a bit better, but they broke up twice, and got back together twice, and just last week broke up again, but I think maybe this time it is for real. She's now always crying, digging her nails into her fists, screaming, and curled up into a ball. Even before she met her boyfriend, she's been seeing a conseler, but that hasn't really been helping... I am afraid she's going to try and commit suicide... HELP

Is she still seeing the counselor on a regular basis?

I'm a family counselor, so here is what I suggest. Ask your mom to take you with her to a future session or two (after your mom warns the counselor you want to be included). Then you can vent and say what is in your heart in a quiet environment where your mother will listen to you, and the counselor can guide both of you as to what to do at home to improve your lives.

    How does that sound?

Hi sweetie, I am a mom and I have also dealt with depression. With your father having passed away, you and your mother both have my deepest sympathy.

A good therapist, and even some prescribed medicines, would help. In my case, I was depressed when my children grew up on me. Of course that is normal, but I needed help to move in. Do you have a person, family or friend, that might talk to her for you and explain how troubled you are. That you want her to be happier? Also, there is an organization called "Parents Without Partners"
That would give your mom a chance to socialize with other people in a similar condition, by divorce or being widowed. Good luck!
