Child support / giving up rights?
I am 22 years old, I have a 5 year old daughter, she is raised very well, by myself and my parents. I filed for child support when she was born and never received anything. Now I just want to end everything I started. I don't care about money and I certainly don't need it. I have come a very long way and I don't need anything from him. I want him to give up his rights and end all the child support I don't even want the back pay. I don't know what I need to do to get this process going. He has never seen her except when she was born and his name isn't even on her birth certificate. Any suggestions on how I should go about doing this, please keep in mind I haven't spoken to him in 5 years as well. Thank you for all who respond.

First of all, congratulations on doing such a very fine job raising your daughter. But I would rethink the child support - just because you do not "need it" does not mean your daughter does not need that support or could use that support at a later time. Child support is not for you - it is for your child. If you truly do not need the money - put it away for your daughter - make it for college funds.

Even if he gave up his rights, it does not mean the child support will stop. He owes this to his daughter - not to you.

Thank you for your input but the point I was kind of getting at is I have never received any money and I found out the other day he has 3 other girls, I would like him to be able to get a normal job and be able to support his family. Because of the child support his DL is revoked and he can't get a normal job. So I want him to give up rights and drop the child support I just don't know how to do all this.

It is best to speak with an attorney experienced in Family Law. You can start the proceeding to have his rights terminated but that does not guarantee that they will be. And it does not guarantee that the judge will revoke any past and current child support. The courts take a dim view of deadbeat parents and the petition to terminate rights in order to avoid paying child support. Not having a driver's license is not of an excuse for not getting gainful employment. There are other means of transportation.

So your best bet is to contact a Family Law Attorney and speak to him/her. That person can inform you of the laws in your state. Good luck.

I do not agree with not being able to "give up your rights as a parent" its is bs that you can not do this if necessary because of the simple fact that... what if your child is being raised by the mother and being taught to "hate" their father? No one puts that into consideration... my daughter is brainwashed to think that her father a.k.a. myself is a bad person... and she also tries her hardest to make my life a living hell. She constantly nags child support for the money from myself and me only owing approximatly 2000 in arrears I've been to court 2 times already. And she is always asking for msupport to go up. And I just can't live off what I'm getting paid minus the child support and if anyone can live off 200 dollars a month please tell me what kind of drugs your selling... so my only reason for doing such a thing is for the simple reason is that I can't live therefore I can't support my daughter along with paying for a house and other bills... and for anyone that says "you can't get a job without a drivers liscense" you can simply go ***** yourselves because you just can't get a job that makes enough money to get ahead... and if you do they more then likely will raise your support shortly after hire "to pay for your arrears" so put all of that into consideration before you label us as a "deadbeat dad"
