I have an 85 gal. equiv. baldder tank with a 1 hp, 18GPM submerged pump. The system is about 12 1/2 years old. Lately when showering or filling the wash machine, the water stops until the pump kicks in then all is fine again. This generally only happens once during a shower or wash cycle. Is this likely the bladder in the tank failed. My neighbeor mentioned a similar issue with his system and said he had a blockage in the electrical conduit fitting at the well cap in his front yard. This makes no sense to me .

A ruptured bladder will cause the system to short-cycle, meaning the pump will cut on for a few seconds, then off for a few seconds, back on for a few seconds, and so forth. Pressure will change dramatically on the gauge.

If you suspect a ruptured bladder, then find the little air valve at the top. Depress the valve stem for a few seconds. If water comes out, then you have found your problem.

Another possibility is the little pipe that goes to the switch. It can clog and cause the switch to respond too slowly. Too find out, you will have to remove the switch and simply inspect the pipe. If it is clogged, then either replace it or just clean it out.
