I used to do it by trying to extend the point of being and awake and asleep. You know that point. Its when you might suddenly jerk. Then being awake and asleep get blurred. It took a lot to hold it for long but it was like dreaming but you had some control.

Alcohol will interfere with your ability to dream. I don't know if you drink or not. Also, I took a Psychology class years ago and they said to ask yourself throughout the day " Am I dreaming" then out of habit, while your dreaming you will ask yourself and realize your in a dream. Just a suggestion, hope it helps.
