    Hanging border as chair railing
Is it hung the same height as crown molding?

A chair rail is normally 36 to 40 inches from the floor. It was initial installed so that chairs would not damage a wall, so no, having it up there with crown moulding would not achieve that purpose. You do know that crown moulding goes around the top of the wall separating the ceiling from the wall??

Sure you don't mean chair rail?

Hi ma0641, I am sure that is what she meant. What else could it be?

I guess I got a little confused (easy at 72) between use of chair rail and crown molding in the post. And I hate doing crown molding!

I used to hang my Shaker chairs high up on the wall, but it was an exposed beam under a vaulted ceiling... could this be a chair rail used near the ceiling?
