Could any body tell me how to reload windows: while trying to load driver from operating disk I had a problem and lost all my files due to damage on disk, know have new disk, but when I switch on computer I automatically go on to page showing options such as safe mode, command prompt etc.I have tried to enter safe mode but the unit will not allow me. Have I killed my daughters computer or can anybody help me to redeem myself to her. :confused: :confused: :mad: :mad:

Heh... not in my experience. WinXP has detected my video card correctly only about 75% of the time. Same story with sound cards.Quote:

Where the info is complete and easy to follow.Excellent advice for those who wish to 'mess' after install.The answers do come up in a large pop-up window,but I have no problems with it,as I use Firefox anyway.
That has nothing to do with this 'discussion',except to say it's the best browser.As if you did'nt know anyway.
Not installing drivers on your 'own' is a bit dodgy though,player21.XP often needs a helping hand in my experience.
Incidentally.I wonder what the lowest 'spec' is for a PC running XP?

Don't buy the windows xp cd from big stores like circuit city, staples, office max, etc... get the cd from a person, tell him to burn you one or give you one. He/she will not make the price $200, he/she should give for about $50. That is very cheap. I got my cd from my country so I got it wayyyyyyy cheap!!

Excellent idea.Dont buy a copy,get a friend to 'clone' you one.Then when you activate it over the net,you get an error message.The code has already been registered on Microsoft security servers.Still,you could always search the net and get a 'hacked' code.Nothing wrong there??Quote:

Hi,
When you say you have a new disc, do you mean a new Win98/98SE install CD?
If so, place the CD in your CD-ROM drive.
Then, turn off the computer.
Turn on the computer, and when it comes up to "Boot to CD-ROM" or "Boot to Harddrive", choose "Boot to CD-ROM".
You can then install windows 98.
IF the above doesn't show you a choice, you have to make a floppy boot disk.
Please post back if you need steps on how to do this, using another computer and your Win98/98SE install CD.

First of all, I installed win xp on 2 to 3 computers with my cd. The serial number has no problem. It works fine!! And second of all, you don't have to activate it over the net. Get win xp service pack 1, and install that. Then download service pack 2. or if you can get service pack 2 on a cd, just install it from the cd. I'm just telling u, win xp is wayyy better then 98!!

Sounds like you are running pirated software.. I do think you can forget about any help in the future as no one will help anyone using pirated software..

People can crack the win xp, and use it without a serial. Microsoft can't stop illegal copies of xp cd's in any other country other then the one they are in. its true that the law states that you can't copy copyrite cds, but the law is only for usa. I don't want to start a fight about this OK. U got your system fixed, that's good.

Yes, you _can_ get around microsoft's "activation" process with very little stress. But that isn't the point...
I don't care if the software you run is "legit" or not. But please don't tell other people that it is legal to copy software under microsoft's draconian EULA, especially as you are unsure exactly what laws operate in the country said people reside in.
If you're going to commit copyright infringement, at least acknowlegdge it _is_ copyright infringement...

I am saying that people can copy them, I never told anyone to do anything. People have their own minds, they can decide for themselves. And what does all of this have to do with your question on the beginning of the thread? I guess your thread question was probably answered so there's no need to come back to this page.
