I often wake up hearing the pages of my Bible being turned. I keep it on a little stand beside my bed across from my pillow. I used to keep it on my pillow next to me, but moved it to the stand after the first time it happened. When I finally decided to look, I saw the page turn from right to left. Then as I was watching one page was being lifted and down left to right. I finally sat up and turned the pages vback to where I keep it open at Psalm 23 and it stopped. I did not feel any fear, and like I stated, it has happened before. I want to "assume" it's something holy, but wanted opinions. Can something evil even touch the Bible?

I did have something in my home a few months ago that had to be prayed away because it was causing fear and physical phenomenon, and took the help of my pastor, but nothing like that since. It was just so blatant last night I thought I would ask here.

Any thoughts would be welcomed and thanks to all who respond.

One thing you must know is that the cross and the Bible are not tools to scare off spirits. Satan and demons can quote scripture... better than most Christians I might add. While they don't like God's word, it's not the physcial book that fights them... it's what the Bible SAYS that they fear. So to answer your question... yes spirits can and do quite often touch the Bible. There are even such things as religious spirits. Assuming this is something holy just because it's turning your Bible pages is unwise. God will often give believers scripture... and that usually is placed on their heart... never once have I heard of God or an angelic entity opening the Bible for someone. It's just not how God does things.

If you had a problem several months ago, I would say your problem is back. This is not an unusual thing to happen and it is actually backed by scripture. We're told more than once that when an evil spirit is removed, whether it be from a person or a home, that it often will try to return to it's "home".

Either you're giving this spirit a reason that it can return, or you're not taking the authority against it as a believer should. May I ask what the circumstances were for the proble you had a couple months ago? What did the pastor do for you exactly?

Right, this is what I figured and that's why I posed the question here, thank you. My thoughts are that it keeps trying to return and leaves when I affirm my authority in Christ.

My previous circumstances are in the post "Guardian or Ghost?" and you actually tried to help me there. So, thank you again. After that discussion I went to my pastor and 3 of us prayed in his office. However, it wasn't until I began verbally reestablishing and proclaiming my authority as a born again believer that I felt this something lift off me right there. My head began spinning, I felt faint, and my whole body broke out into such a sweat that my clothes were soaked. Ever since then I have been able to sense when there is something here. My dog is the first to see. Then my ears begin ringing, especially my left ear, and it can be so loud I can't hear anything else and can't sleep. It has lasted as long as 3 days. But, at least 3 times I believe it was, I guess I would call it a "good spirit." It made it's presence known to me once. I think I make the mistake of fixating on them too much and take my eyes off the Lord. Could that be it?

Yes, it certainly sounds like you experienced deliverance... and the way you were being verbal with it is exactly what needs to happen. However, I have no doubt that it is trying to stick around... just as it is being persistent you need to be as well. I might suggest next time you feel this presence not only to begin praying, pleading the Blood of Jesus over yourself and your home, but also I would suggest playing some worship music in a CD player or something. Rebuke it, but don't dwell on it... learn to really worship God. Remember, the Holy Spirit dwells in worship music. This spirit is going to have a hard time in that atmosphere. Next time you have an incident try those things. Use scripture when you are praying against it. That is how Christ overcame Satan in the wilderness... which scripture. God bless...

I know it was Old Testament but remember when Samuel was being contacted by the Lord directly. God did not speak until Samuel said "Speak, for your servant is listening". However caution should be exercised to affirm that it is not a false prophet.. . see 1John 4:1-4.

I believe that making contact would be foolish and irresponsible on my part. As a born again believer I feel that God's holy messengers are only sent for His good purpose and when that is accomplished they leave and do not hang around. So, I agree with Hauntinghelper in assuming this is not sent from the one true God. I have simply closed all my Bibles and ignore the rest. I continue to play the gospel music, but that is not agitating it enough to leave, so it is persistent. Fortunately, it is serving to strengthen my faith and authority as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Even He did not engage evil spirits in conversation except the one time he asked its name to show it will only lie. So, I would never believe anything it says or validate it by trying to make contact. The last time it brought stronger things with it, so I will continue to "resist and he will flee."

But, I thank you for your reply to my question. The first time phenomena began I was enamoured by it and took my eyes off the Lord, and that was so foolish on my part.

Sacredchaos - It is important to understand spirits have varying degrees of both strength and will power. Some leave easier than others... and if this persistence doesn't seem to back down after awhile I suggest you get some believers together in your home and command it to leave. There is no shortage of reading on the subject and I suggest you do some research on it. Knowledge is power, and when you understand more fully the subject of spiritual authority the better of you will be. Hang in there... resist and eventually he will flee... fight the good fight. I'm here to help in anyway I can as long as you have this problem. Do keep us updated though.

And also, evil will normally pose as good spirits, most good will never be seen or ever been known, just felt.

Very important point. It can also be tricky... but it they feel they still have a right to be in a home or around an individual that right needs to be removed. This could be anything from unconfessed sin to an object or artifact they were originally attached to. Situations like these doesn't really disappear overnight.

I want to thank you again for the insight, encouragement and support you have continued to give me. I also want to give you an update. Night after night of laying in bed and praising the Lord and praying for forgiveness for whatever ground I gave the enemy and to close the door, I finally feel it has left my home. I feel peace and my dog is back to normal. Thank you for answering my post and giving me the courage to take back my home.

I wish others would take your advice about the Lord Jesus and the authority he gives us as believers. This stuff is not a game! Will this thing continue to try and return from time to time? I will try and lead a righteous life, but I am a sinner. Is repentance the key to keeping it away? Will I always be open to this? Do people who sense evil spirits have to live with this, and is it a curse or a gift? Some Christians say they can see the spirits and that's how they do spiritual warfare, but that's how I got into trouble in the first place. I wanted this and fasted and prayed for the Father to give me this spiritual sense. Somewhere along the way I began talking to the father of lies and not or Father in heaven. Yet, I am still interested in deliverance ministry. Please, tell me your thoughts about that topic and I appreciate your direct answers. Don't be afraid to call me crazy. Some people say that God writes our desires in our hearts and I thoughts that since I have had "experiences" I could help others. You also told me that seeing spirits is not the same things as spiritual discernment. However, a well known Christian author claims that it is part of his because he can actually see them and then proceeds to help people because he then knows what is attached to them (ie. His version of spiritual warfare). What are your thoughts?

It's my pleasure to help. I can understand your interest in the subject of deliverance as I have had the calling on my life for a number of years. This isn't something I sought and I warn people not too get too involved in it... because obsession with the paranormal is just one of many ways the enemy can draw you closer to it. To answer your question, yes, a spirit can return to try once more to gain a foothold or a dwelling where it once had. Mostly detailed in Matthew 12, Christ showed us that if our lives and homes aren't kept in spiritual order, a spirit can come back. Now I don't suggest you spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder or becoming jumpy at every sound in fear of it returning. Remember, those that Christ has set free are free indeed. Accept His forgiveness and simply move on with your life. Remember, nothing about the Christian life is about being perfect. Our salvation is a gift and we are ALL sinners saved by grace. Obviously some are better at living it than others and I myself struggle in many areas. But cling with dear life to God's promise that even if I stumble in my walk that I am upheld by His right hand and will not be cast down. We serve a faithful and loving God, even when we are not faithful. I think you learned your lesson with this subject and I believe that foothold will not be easily given again.

When you speak of people "sensing" spirits there are really several ways this is accomplished. I believe in most cases (such as hauntings, etc... ) the spirits choose to be made known and manifest themselves at will to whom they want, when they want. In the case of those who are believers and have the spirit of God dwelling in them... in many cases that Holy Spirit will be at odds with another spirit that may be close by. I have experienced this myself in a home... it's almost as if the Holy Spirit is sending up red flags... saying, "Hey, something is here and I don't like it". I am aware of many Christians having been able to see demons for the purpose of deliverance and also there own understanding... and in these cases I believe this belongs under the heading of divine decision. God can choose to open our eyes to the spirit world... and His reasons are His reasons. It is certainly not necessary for deliverance to see a spirit.

The spiritual Gift of Discernment is one of the most misunderstood Gifts. Simply put it is God allowing an individual to know what is driving or motivating a person. It's has nothing to do with seeing, feeling, or contacting evil spirits. If the church only more fully understood scripture we would have little trouble identifying spirits. The ability to know whether a spirit is good or bad is IN THE BIBLE FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW. That is not a gift... it's knowledge.

Let's be clear on something. Just because someone is an "author" does not mean they are correct. That's like saying you read something on the internet so it must be true. I'm not saying this individual doesn't see spirits... or even that it's not legit. It could be how God uses him... but that certainly isn't the norm and as I said earlier it is not necessary to SEE a spirit to remove it.

The calling to deliverance is a serious one. God does give us the desires of our heart... and I for one take that passage in scripture to mean that HE puts our desires there. Not that He gives us what we want. I have always believed in the paranormal, demonic, etc... but I can remember specifically when I began to feel called to the subject. While every believer has the right and authority to remove a spirit... the act as a specific ministry is not for everyone. I would only suggest you pray about it. One thing I prayed over and over was that if this call or pull was not from God that it be removed. This is one specific subject that I believe over studying can actually cause problems. It is just to easy to head down the wrong path. The spirit world is an area we will never fully understand... and it's meant to be that way. We're only to deal with it when it gets involved in our lives. We're not to go looking for a fight or seek after it's manifestation. That will be a quick path away from God my friend.

In regards to Spiritual Gifts in general... if you want to do a good study on them I suggest reading what Lester Sumrall has written on the subject. Same goes with spiritual warfare and the demonic. Lester Sumrall was a world authority on both subjects and reading what he has to say might give you a much better foundation for understanding these things.

Once again I was naïve. I thought it was gone, but clearly not. Perhaps it was then again came back. This is my 3rd night without sleep. It made itself known by making me feel sheer terror so intense I wa paralyzed by fear and could not move. Then I felt something move across my bed and over my legs. My son heard my scream and thankfully came to my bedroom to see if I was okay. I did not tell him because I did not want to validate it with my words. Now I know the only thing we have to fear its fear itself, and it's working a number on me mentally. Things that I once believed were tried and true do not offer the same comfort and I am so unsure what to do. Keeping my Bibles open to Psalm 23 now stay closed because it's not amusing to know something evil is turning the pages. I can't sleep with my ceiling fan on because the slightest movement of it blowing some of the paper with scriptures I have taped around my room is unsettling because it tears these things down. I know you said to persevere and it fhtis is trying to wear me down mentally, I guess that would be my biggest concern. I need you to reassue me that when I command it to leave in Lord Jesus name it HAS to leave... even if it thinks it can return later. All the things I do to agitate it, such as constant prayer, saying my affirmations out loud, playing gospel music, and playing sermons all day when I'm not playing music does not seem to be affecting it as I believed it would. I can't research this on the internet because I had a voice tell me very clearly "stop looking at the occult" a few months ago when I was researching the sounds and voices I was hearing. So, I will only come directly to you because of your faith and Biblical-based advice. Is there something more I can do or am I just waiting it out and staying firm in my faith? It's not fair becaues thre are so many people living in sin and they are not bothered. I am in seminary and working toward the goal of prison chaplaincy, so I expect harassment, but why has God made me aware that it's here? I can't think of any open doors I have left. These are the only things I can think of so I will tell you to get your opinion.
* I am in pain management for 2 cervical herniations until I get surgery and take prescribed pain medication. I know the evil spirit that is over drug use, but this is prescribed by a physician and it is not abused.
* My son is not yet a born again beliver. He prays to our Father and is in the process of asking Him to reveal His Holy Spirit to his heart, and is hoping to become baptized.
* My son is a video game editor and some of the games are probably thought to be demonic by fundamentalists. I removed his Diablo posters and placed them in the garage covered up. I anointed all the tv's, computers, and gaming systems.
* I live in a military town that has a high crime rate because it is so transient. A high number of Marines have anger issues from back-to-back deployments and the spirit of lust is unbelievably strong over this area, but I stay away from heavy populated places because I had a spirit jump onto me from someone else once.

Othere than that I can't think of a door. I repent of all sin every day, even my own lustful thoughts that I struggle with from time to time I ask for forgiveness for immediately.

I need some peace. I'm beginning to break down. I'm sorry for the long post, but I'm just trying to give you the full picture here. I know I asked God to awaken my spiritual eyes and let me "see," but I have since asked our Father to close that door and I had made a foolish mistake. I didn't want to see demons, I wanted to see the angel that was present during my conversion. That's what started this whole mess.

P.S. It does seem to return (or maybe I am more aware) immediately after a fast. In fact, after my very first fast was when it came, but I was asking God to allow me to remove the scales see beyond the veil. (facepalm)

Believe me, I understand the frustration you are going through. Deliverance is not always an immidiate victory. I do have a couple questions for you though...

What affirmations are you speaking?

Why do you assume there was an angel with you during conversion?

Have you ever had manifestations anywhere beside where you are living right now?

The only other experience I have ever had was at age 13. I used to have terrifying nightmares about an evil presence. I would wake up frozen in fear. I had to sleep with the lights on because I kept imaging this thing was at the end of my bed and I could fell it shaking, but then one time I woke up paralyzed in fear and my bed was still shaking. The lights were on and nothing was there. That's when I asked my mother if we had a Bible and she gave me one. I memorized Psalm 23. I eventually managed to recite the entire thing in my nightmares and they eventually subsided.

I use the "I Am" affirmations taken from the Bible, many of them are here:
I AM Affirmations — Beyond Positive Thinking
Such as:
1. A child of God (Romans 8:16)
2. Redeemed from the hand of the enemy (Psalm 107:2)
3. Forgiven (Colossians 1:13-14)
4. Saved by grace through Faith (Ephesians 2:8)
5. Justified (Romans 5:1)
6. Sanctified (1 Corinthians 6:11)
And so on...

There was an angel that spoke to me in a loud, booming voice. It was as if the voice was breaking into our world as loud as a jet engine. It changed me. That day I was delivered from 10 years of addiction to a prescribed medication Lorazepam. All dangerous and life threatening side effects were healed, gone, as if I had never taken the drug. I had suffered from trying to get off this drug for 10 years. All my posts are on the drug's withdrawal help forums. I didn't even believe it myself and questioned God. I told him that if I was truly delivered then I will go to this 80 year old reverend at this little old Church of the First free Will where the pharmacy tech had invited me to go for months and let him say very 3 very specific things related to the Bible. Toward the end of his sermon he said all three. After the service I could barely walk to him and I broke down telling him my story and showed him the 3 things he had said because I had them written down with me. That day was my first day without those pills. Before then I had always ended up in the emergency room from convulsions as a result of tapering. My doctor who prescribed them could not believe it and my pharmacist who filled the RX for them years agreed it was deliverance. So, the angel that spoke to me changed my life forever. I do not assume. I know. It is not my job to convince anyone he was there, but be a witness with a story.

Unfortunately, it was this event that caused me to take my eyes off the Lord and become mesmerized by angels. I wanted the experience again and read tons of books on people who claim they can see angels. Stupid! I came across authors like Judith McNutt who gave instructions on how to seek these angel experiences... and I did just like a little child. Somehow it turned into me praying to the father of lies and not the Holy Father. I don't know when or how. I fasted, I prayed, I even didn't realize how my voice slowly changed when I prayed. It became... it's so hard to explain, but it is sickening to me now. My dog would even go and hide when I prayed in that voice. So, after my first fast of praying to "see" and stuff this thing showed up in my home. I thought it was amusing. I thought it was a guardian spirit. I laughed when it did things like throw my baptism certificate into my face. I thought it was an angel telling me to go back to that church. It wasn't until my childhood photo was marked up that the real terror began. All the lightbulbs in the house blew. My printer would not print my scriptures. My laptop became garbled and an evil groan came from it. Doors would slam when I prayed. I saw my little dog pinned down once and fear filled the room. I don't even like typing about it now. I know these are not terrible things when you read them and some people might think they are funny, but the scariest parts were that I couldn't even read my Bible. I tried and it was like a foreign language to me. I couldn't pray... I had to write down my prayers instead. I reread those weeks later and they are filled with such despair. Being a born again believer I assumed that I couldn't be affected this way. Now once again I'm jumping at every sound I hear and afraid to sleep. I'm not even telling you about the ones I've actually seen with my eyes.

And I'm rambling now. I'm sorry. I just want it to stop and I want to live normally again like all those other people don't believe demons are real.

Tell me your thoughts.

Over the internet I obviously can make no judgement call on your personal walk with God. It does seem you understand what is going on and how things work. The affirmations are great with an enemy that doesn't back down. Just make sure you're saying them in a way to remind the spirit who you are in God and not so much in a way where you're just trying to convince yourself of them. The worship music and audio sermons are great... and they usually are an effective way to clear the air in a home... just make sure you're doing it not so much to agitate the spirit... but simply to invite God in.

Believe me, I'm not trying to pick apart what you are doing... only to help in any way I can. Don't break yourself down over constant confession... remember, this fight is really between God and the Devil. Even Michael didn't fight Satan... he said the "the Lord rebuke you". This fight isn't in your power to win... it's by God's power. If you've broken ever tie to this thing you can think of... then don't beat yourself up over it. There are strong spirits out there and not every deliverance is immediate.

One of the most important things you can do in a situation like yours... especially when it manifests is to plead the Blood of Jesus over yourself and the home... because it really is the Blood that makes the difference.

Mentally I've been putting myself in your situation. All I can do is tell you what I would do. If this thing begins to manifest again I would say aloud to it "You have no more right to me and I command you in the name of the Lord Jesus to get out now. I am covered by the Blood of the Lamb and you have no more right here. By the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ and the great commission I command you to leave."

There's no magic formula here. It may just boil down to an issue of perseverance. And certainly don't be ashamed to bring in a mature brother in Christ to pray with you and pray over the home. We're not always mean to fight battles on our own. Hang in there, I'm 100% sure deliverance is in your future... It's God word plain and simple... you will overcome.

I just wanted to let you know that slowly things have gotten better. Your help meant so much to me. It wasn't just the solid biblically-based advice you offered me, but you helped me stay grounded in my faith that ultimately made the difference.

I check out your comments to others who are seeking help and totally appreciate the approach you use. It seems that so many people have their own perspective, but in my opinion yours is the only safe, authentic help. Sure others may have experience like you, but when it's not grounded in faith in the Lord it seems so naïve and dangerous for those seeking help.
