    How many dependents may I claim , over the amount that actually live in my house and still be able to get a return. Legally

    Hello watcher:

    It doesn't matter whether they live with you or not. What matters is that you contribute more than 50% of their support. So, how many ever you support, that's the amount you can claim

    ExCon has it right if you are speaking about your tax return.

    If you are speaking about the W-4, claim yourself, your wife and your children, plus up to TWO more.
