What is the outside temprature? That may determine what heat source is used. If you use a heat pump and the temp goes below freezing they don't work efficiently enough to heat the home and aux heat source must be used.

currently the outside temp is 63 but the wind is blowing at about 5 mph I cleaned the filter and everything. Next question is will the aux heat increase my bill. I just moved in this apartment and I never seen this type of unit. Need to know if I should call my reality to have the unit looked at

Aux heat usually is very expensive to use. At least in the situation I had explained to you. You might want to call them and ask if that is normal or is something else going on. With you being in an apartment your heating situation may be drastically different then what I had described.
