My ultimate favourite place (by CravenMorhead)
As an aside, I am a RPGer but more of the old-fashioned pencil and paper variety. More years ago than I care to remember, I was involved in a campaign that asked the following question: Given the lush forest, ghetto city slums, or desert, where would your character choose to live? When I put together or play a character I tend to put a lot of myself into the character. This question came to me as more of a personal introspection than one of my character.
While the lush forest would provide everything I need and the desert would provide the solitude I crave, the city slums is what I chose. In there, you can feel the love, the hate, the sadness and despair, but the hope and triumphs of the common person. Each person has a story and it is endlessly fascinating to hear them - though I think we could do without the Honey Boo Boos and the 16 and pregnant. Opinion only….
I have several favourite places. I live in Calgary in Alberta, a province in western Canada, and have easy access to the rolling plains of the prairies as well as the majestic heights of the Rocky Mountains.
Being outside and watching the natural world is key to keeping serene in the city. It is one of my favourite places, but not my favourite place.
I have always liked walking Downtown during the warmer months.
You see all types of people around. All beautiful people. It takes a little mental exercise but it shows how interconnected we are in this crazy world. The sense of community is sadly lacking in our post post modern world. I can tell you right now that I barely know ANY of my neighbours. But you watch these people walk around and you know they're going home, going to work, going to see their mistresses, or just wandering because there is nothing else to do. It is one of my favourite places, but not my favourite place.
My favourite place is actually my computer chair, either at my work, where I do most my posting on AMHD, or at home, where I am an avid consumer of all the Internet has to offer.
It is a place where I can satisfy my many needs and desires. These can range from stories of life in the modern world, artwork from this century or early in history, cute pictures of cats with funny captions, to pornography, chat rooms, and social media. It is all there and waiting to be consumed. It is my porthole on the world. Connected but disconnected at the same time.
