It is not necessary to remove the globe if you have an open face globe.

The problem is that I can't figure out how to get the bulbs out of the housing. They are not standard CF bulbs. I think they clip in somehow but I can't get them to come loose.

What kind of bulbs are they because as far as I know they ALL screw in. Now if they are hard to UNSCREW, that's a different matter. And they ALL should not be stuck(?).

Maybe what you need is a friend who has more knowledge of this task. Like a handy man type of person. Don't be afraid to seek in person help if you have never done this before.
