    First EtG Test. Freaked out...
I am on probation for being an idiot and earning myself a DWI. Of course no drinking is a condition of the probation...

I haven't had a single drop to drink since the night of the DWI more than a year ago.

I use a non-alcohol mouthwash and avoid alcohol in foods and medicines - except vanilla extract, which I only use in stuff I bake. I did simmer some brats in a beer I bought for that purpose eight months ago.

I just had to do my first drug/alcohol test since I went on probation and despite not drinking I'm anxious as hell about it. I am afraid of incidental exposure causing a positive result. I specifically asked my probation officer (who is no longer my probation officer) whether I should avoid any particular grooming products. She said, "No." Here are the possible sources of exposure that I've been able to find:

    * Aerosol Hairspray, once per day, a shot lasting a couple seconds. I do try to avoid breathing the stuff but bathroom isn't all that large. Number one ingredient is denatured alcohol.

    * Cologne. A couple quick sprays every morning.

    * Alcohol+salicylic acid skin cleanser. One every few days on face, neck,and/or shoulders. I try not to breathe it but given where I'm using it, that's kind of hard.

    * A few days before the test, a single use of alcohol hand sanitizer while visiting a relative at the hospital. Was in open room and don't remember specifically avoiding breathing it but don't think I got any more than a whiff.

Is it possible the limited exposure above would cause a positive on the test? I have no idea what cutoffs are, whether they scale the test to creatinine, etc. I did urinate at home the morning of the test and had to drink water for an hour before I could go again at the probation office.

    Thanks for any input.
