The theme song to the sitcom "Step By Step" is titled "Second Time Around" and it was performed by Theresa James and Jesse Frederick. Jesse Frederick co-wrote the theme with Bennett Salvay

Not what I was looking for. The song Step by step is performed by Eddie Rabbit in 1982. I found it on You tube while waiting for a response to my question.

OK well the crests sang it also.
Why the infraction?
