I'm not typically a shy person, but ever since I met this girl (who I am now dating) I am extremely shy and timid around her. We've been dating for about 5 days. One time she told me she was cold, so I offered her my jacket. She said we were almost back at her house so she didn't need it. When she said she was cold the second time, I knew that she wanted me to put my arm around her, but I was too worried about it backfiring and to nervous to do it. When we got to her house, we stopped at her step and talked a little. It seemed like she wanted a kiss. But alas, I was to shy to attempt it. Instead we just hugged. I could use some advice on what to do better next time, how I can boost my confidence, or just tips on how to put your arm around someone. Anything is appreciated.

By reading what you wrote, it seems obvious to me that you do know what she wants and what you should do... so do it. That's all I can say. Put your arm around her... maybe kiss her. She's going out with you, don't be shy about stuff that you know.

I'm just naturally shy around girls I guess. It's hard for me to do things like this, as I always look at the worst possible outcome.

Don't. You're holding yourself back.

I'm not saying to be a pushy as$ but if she gives you signs to put your arm around her, do it. She's going out with you... that says something. Gain some confidence from that.

How old are you?
You've only been dating the girl 5 days, how long had you known her before you started dating. Maybe you are not ready for that yet.

I've known her for about a year, but I haven't been talking to her for that entire time. We started hanging out about 3-4 months or so ago.

Just remember... don't be pushy either. That will also hurt you in the long run. Be nice, be polite, respect her... those things are key to remember.

This is pretty normal, my girlfriend and I have been dating for 2 years and I still get nervous, because to this day I can't believe I got a girl like her. Over time you will get use to each other. One you guys are dating so no need to worry about casting your fishing rod, you already got a bite... sorry for the fishing metaphor. And don't try to think of every possible outcome because if you did it wouldn't be very exciting. Just go with the flow and not worry about what will happen just worry about what is happening in that moment :) hope this helped
