    Over the Range Microwaves
I want to install an over-the-range microwave. What is the minimum distance I need between the bottom of the microwave and the top of the flat stove top? I have a slide-in range with the knobs on the front and a flat ceramic cooktop. I have less than 30" between the bottom of the cupboard and the stovetop. Is it possible to install an OTR microwave in this space? Thanks for your answers.:)

If there is only 30" now and you put a microwave, conservatively about 15 inches tall, then you'll have like 15" between the bottom of the microwave and the stovetop, am I correct in this assumption?

I would think that is way too close and the microwave will end up getting damaged, it can vent the heat but from only 15" up the microwave will get extremely hot, plus boiling liquids will splash onto it.

Read the box for the minimum safe distance but in general the bottom of the microwave should be even with the bottom of the regular cabinets, usually there is a very thin cabinet over the stove in cases where you plan for a microwave above the stove.
