    17 year old daughter
My 17 year old daughter is getting ready to have her baby. Her boyfriend is not the best. I don't want the baby to have his last name. Do I have any rights here

No, as the parent of the teen, you have no legal rights as to what or how she names her baby.

No. As other answers have said, it's up to your daughter to name the baby. However, the baby's last name does NOT have to be the last name of her boyfriend. They are not married. If I were your daughter, I would give the baby my last name. Her boyfriend might not even be around in a year or so, if he is now.

As the others have noted, you have no rights. But whatever your daughter chooses to name the child, she should list the father on the birth certificate. This will help with later child support issues.
