    Brown water
We turned off our water to replace a faucet and when we turned it back on the hot water is brown. How do we fix it?

Have you tried draining the hot water tank? There is usually a valve at the base for draining them. Then allow the water to run for awhile so it can clear out. Having brown water is an indication that rust is in your pipes.

Sorry Calidad, but you're off base here a bit!

Hcutti simply disturbed some sediment that has built up in the lines over time. All he/she needs to do is to run the water for a prolonged period (say 3-5 minutes) and that should clear the lines of the sediment that has been disturbed as a result of turning the water main on/off... ;)

    Hello Hcutti,

Follow Marks instructios and also I would suggest to flush your water heater.

For long life and fewer troubles you should keep your heater clear of mineral build-up by FLUSHING NOT DRAINING on a regular schedule. Attach a hose to the heater drain at the bottom of the tank. With the pressure on, open a hot faucet in the house, open the heater drain and let it run until the water runs clear, good luck.
