Things to do while my friend is hurting
So, my best friend is sad because one of his friends just died from cancer. I'm there for him but he also needs time to cope. So what do I do to keep from worrying about him so much? Because he's the only real friend I have. Help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You are truly a great friend. A good friend is someone who you respect and trust. Please stop worrying about him. He will eventually be OK. It's very unfortunate that something like this happens, but it does and he will be OK. Good luck, and best wishes. You are there for him, if he needs you, and that's what counts.

Don't forget your own needs, and life while your friend grieves and mourns to heal. Sometimes we neglect ourselves to help others. You will worry, but don't neglect yourself.

I am Catholic and I was given some very good insight by a Franciscan priest years ago. He told me that "grief doesn't always need to be fixed - it usually needs to be fully experienced and then we can move forward". Be available, be understanding but don't hover and don't smother and don't push. Be the same friend you've always been and just tell him,"I wish I knew what to do...all I can think of is to remind you I'm here for you".
