    My parents don't support me.
Hi, I'm a fourteen year old girl, and I live in Nova Scotia. I have a real passion for acting, and I hope to one day (soon) to get to start auditioning and work in/on TV. My problem is that my parents are 100% against me choosing this career. I know of auditions for shows only one to two hours away, so we wouldn't have to disrupt my education, but they will not allow me to. I really want to get started, the sooner the better, and I have talked about it to them, but they won't let me. What can I do?

You can do acting and be in school plays where you live. Churches and Sunday schools have them too. Get together with several friends and learn lines and present short plays to residents of a nursing home or to children at a local hospital. When I was a den mother, my group of Scouts presented a play every year to the entire troop (as did other groups). Is there a Girl Scout troop near you? Join that and encourage putting on plays now and then. Get some experience.

Nothing to change their minds. So what type of acting classes have you done.

What local productions are you doing, what school plays are you in

You will need local experience, you are not going to show up at a major production with no training and no prior local experience and even get an interview

I agree with the others as starting small and local gives you a chance to sharpen your skills and learn and success will give your parents the confidence to get behind you more.

Without disrupting your school, or the family life, or the family budget. What you thought those two hour away try outs where free? Gas, food, lodging ain't free. Be practical, what's the chance of instant fame, and fortune?

Most successful people spend years working hard before they make it! It's a lot of work and dedication. By you AND your parents.
