A person who falsely registering a vehicle
My nephew bought a car recently and got my mother, his aging and fragile grandmother to give him her social security number so that he could registered the car in her name. My nephew is not trustworthy, has a criminal record and at the moment is living with her. I'm fearful that now that he has her social security number he could do further harm. And can't my mother be in some way liable if he was to get into a car accident?

Certainly has the owner she is liable.

Can you get her to give you Power of Attorney?

Not sure how you can revoke her title. But if you have her POA and she is the owner of the car you can sell it out from under him

Where are you located? In my state (and many others) you cannot register a car simply by using a SS#. The person registering the car for the first time has to be there to do it and sign the papers. Also, who is listed on the title of the car? As far as I know, the person on the registration has to be the one on the title.

It is possible that if he was somehow able to register the car in her name that she could be liable if something happens with that car.

And finally... if he is no good as you say, yes, there is plenty he can do now that he has he SS#.

Yes, if the title of the car is actually in grandmothers name, she can be liable, who is putting insurance on the car ( is there insurance)
But if grandmother owns the car, she can just take it away from him also.

    Hello j:

To mirror what Odin said, in MY state you cannot register a car if you don't have a current drivers license. I have a feeling that he really DIDN'T register the car in her name. A SS# number will do the DMV NO GOOD. They want an ADDRESS.
