By riser I mean the drawer thing you pay an arm and a leg for to put your machine up a foot for easier access.
My questions are regarding the p-trap and the stand pipe.
1. I presently do not have a p-trap installed but wish to make it right. Does the height of the washer affect the required height of the p trap? From what I have read the accepted height for p trap with standard machine on the floor is 6"-18" off the floor. Does that change now that I am adding a riser?
2. Also when measuring the stand pipe height that will drain into my wash tub(as it does now)- do you have to allow for the addition of the riser? Standard on the stabdard washing machine on the floor the stand pipe I'm told should be 32"-55" tall.

Would love some input.

Hi Laura

A minimum standpipe coming out of the Ptrap should be about 30".

The standpipe itself should be taller than the top of the washing machine...can be just a little higher or alot higher, but the standpipe should be about 30" +/-

The ptrap can be located anywhere that fits within the numbers above!

Yup! I missed that Brian! If the washer drains into a washtub then as Ma0641 said, you don't need a Ptrap or a standpipe... wash tub already has them!

Ok... Here's the story.
I am getting a new machine and wanted to make sure everything was correct.
Made some adjustments to the plumbing to deliver water to a dryer that uses steam. SOoooo while I was in process of making changes I thought I would be sure the access and drainage was appropriate to the washer.
In fact, currently (pre new machines) I am getting sewer fumes occasionally when washer drains- so thought the p-trap directly for machine would fix that.

I was actually going to "t" in a direct stand pipe to the main system and forgo on the washtub drainage but was worried machine would overwhelm the drain and overflow.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

You cannot just ""t" in a direct stand pipe to the main system" without adding a vent to the drain as well. Now, you could do this if you cut the " without adding a vent to the drain as well. Now, you could do this if you cut the " into the drain pipe and run a vent over to the washer tub vent and connect into that.

Sounds like more work than it is worth to me, however, maybe the washer tub drain isn't vented properly... that would cause the problem you say you have. Do you see a pipe coming above the washer tub itself... pipe would run up the wall and connect into other pipes? Your washer tub may also connect into your kitchen drain pipe (is kitchen directly above the washer tub?) and that is a no-no (unless vented) and would also cause odor problems... ;)

I just finished the laundry room. I pretty much kept as is cause it seemed too complicated to change it.
New machines use waaaay less water and there is no smell!
