My five year old got up this morning and says it hurts to put pressure on his foot. It hurts in his heel and behind his ankle. It also hurts when he points his foot down but not up. There is no swelling or bruising. What could it be? He had to stay out of school becaused it hurt to try and walk on it.

Can you take him to a doctor to have it looked at? There's no way to diagnose it over the Internet.

Usually either a pinched nerve or tendon pull or both. I'd soak his foot in a big pot of warm water over and over, and have him wiggle and move it, and rest with his foot up and a heating pad under it with a damp washcloth, and try to walk every hour for a minute, until it's either over or not, and you can see a doctor. But a doctor will appreciate trying all that first.
