    Submersible Pump Troubleshooting
I have a 600 foot well with a submersible pump. My pump turns on at 30 psi, builds pressure to about 42 psi then just sits, pressure switch does not shut off eventually the breaker kicks, but not all the time some times pressure will build to normal (60psi) then shut off. I have removed the pressure switch and cleaned the contacts and diaphragm and still have the same problem. I am worried the pump may be going bad.? I have not checked the amp draw on the pump yet.

At 600 feet, your pump has to generate about 250# of pressure just to get water to the surface, so that's a pretty good load. It is strange that sometimes it will get to 60# and other times it will not. Sure sounds like a pump issue. The fact that it is throwing the breaker is not good. It does not sound like your issue is with the switch or tank.

What kind of pipe is in the well, galvanized or plastic? How old is the pump?

Plastic pipe. I checked the amp draw on the pump and it was 35 and slowly climbed to 42 before it tripped the breaker I think the motor on the pump is bad so I'm going to replace the pump.

That's how it goes sometimes. Hope it goes all right for you.

The pump will not turn on, the breaker switch is good and when turned on the preasure switch just humms a few seconds and then stops, the pump doesn`t turn on. I have electrics to the preasure switch and leaving the switch going to the control box, I know that there is electrics going to the control box and leaving it, just don`t know how much. What can I do? What can I check? Is it the control box? Or is it the pump itself? Thank you for help.

Next step would be to check for voltage at the well head.

Do you mean that the contacts close for a few seconds and then open?

    Is this pump above ground?

NO the contacts stay closed, and the pump is abou125ft deep in the ground.
