One of my friend who was on f1 status was arrested from a store for possession of synthetic marijuana which his store used to sell illegally. He is not authorized to work and upon that he got arrested and was charger with class B misdeameanor as possession of marijuana less that 2 0z. He was bailed out but my question is will the court look into his immigration status too and does he have the possibilities of deportation?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Most certainly... any arrest and conviction is grounds for immediate termination of their VISA and deportation. Yes the courts WILL know this... they do check up on people before court.

Thank you for the resposne. Will hiring a good attorney to this case would be a good idea? Any other suggestions to stop deportation. He has been in a good status and always a full time student..

If he loses this trial there won't be any stopping the VISA cancellation and the deportation that follows.

Your friend won't be deported for class B misdemeanor BUT he/she will have problem applying for visa next time.
